The Prestige was released in 2006. It is about two rival magicians who try to one up each other and take increasingly dangerous methods to learn each other’s secrets. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, Piper Perabo, Rebeca Hall, Andy Serkis, Roger Reese, and David Bowie. 

I thought The Prestige was very interesting. It was intriguing and a different approach to the world of magicians. I am not surprised given the movie was directed by Christopher Nolan. Christopher Nolan has a tendency to take things to a grounded level. The Dark Knight trilogy is probably the best example. The movie is well cast. Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale do solid work in their roles. This was a different type of role for me to see Hugh Jackman in. I am used to seeing him as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise. I also have seen him in The Greatest Showman and other things. These roles were a lot more gray than black and white, and it was fascinating to watch. 

The movie has a sophistication to it which was nice and refreshing. It seems a lot of Christopher Nolan’s films have that from the movies I have seen directed by him. There were a lot of twists and turns. I was invested in seeing how things were going to play out. I liked the mystery of it and not knowing what was going to happen next. 

The Prestige had a modest box office run when it was released. It was released the year after Batman Begins. I feel if the movie had opened now or a few years later after The Dark Knight, it probably would have had a bigger box office run. It is a refreshing take on the magician’s genre if one can really call it a genre.

The Prestige is a solid Christopher Nolan movie with two great leads. It is full of twists and turns and has an engaging premise.
