Push Review

Push was released in 2009. Push is about two people with abilities who have to search for someone before a dangerous organization does. The film stars Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle, Djimon Hounsou, Cliff Curtis, and Ming Na-Wen.

I thought Push was alright. I thought it had some cool ideas, but I found a lot of the movie boring. I did not feel invested in the story or the characters. I am a big fan of Chris Evans. This movie didn’t really do it for me. I thought the cast did a good job with what they were given.

I didn’t hate the movie, but I didn’t love it. I felt no connection at all to anything in the movie. While watching the movie, it just felt stagnant the whole time. The film felt shallow at times. The antagonists felt very one dimensional. They felt kind of lackluster. The action scenes were alright. Even with people with powers, it was kind bland. Nothing really stood out. The one thing about action movies and superhero type movies is even if the plot is thin and the characters are weak; the action scenes are usually fun at the very least. I did not feel that at all with this.

When Push opened in 2009, it bombed at the box office. I am not that surprised. I have read in the past that there were some intentions or hopes for a franchise out of this. I don’t know how serious that was being considered. Maybe if there was a sequel, maybe it would have gotten exponentially better. If it had become a franchise, there could have been a chance of the world and characters getting more fleshed out.

Push is a standard action sci-fi movie that has a decent cast. It has some cool ideas that never really go anywhere or grow into something extraordinary.
