Jessie and Bullseye set out to help Bonnie make a friend while adjusting to a world where spend time on their screens than they do playing with toys. The film stars Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack, Conan O’Brien, Scarlett Spears, Greta Lee, Lori Alan, Jay Hernandez, Wallace Shawn, Bonnie Hunt, Kristen Schaal, Tony Hale, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Shelby Rabara, Craig Robinson, Annie Potts, and John Ratzenberger.
I enjoyed Toy Story 5 a lot. I was not expecting that. When it was announced that there would be a fifth one, my initial thoughts were why? Was it necessary to make another one? Weren’t four films enough? Usually, when a sequel is announced in a franchise, I’m normally excited about it or at least looking forward to it. Toy Story is a franchise where I felt it did not need to keep going and going. I was always going to see Toy Story 5; I just was not that excited about it. My low expectations worked in my favor because I was pleasantly surprised how good the movie is. It has a very timely story. I found the movie very relatable both from a nostalgic point of view as well as a present point of view. The movie is very emotional. Pixar excels at tugging on the heart strings and they really tug on them this time around.
The main focus this time around is on Jessie who takes center stage. There is a logical reason on how Woody returns after his ending in Toy Story 4. As teased in the trailers for the film, Jessie’s past that was briefly touched on in Toy Story 2 is revisited in this movie. Woody and Buzz Lightyear have the same chemistry they always do. One thing that gets more focus this time around is the relationship between Buzz and Jessie that had started developing in later films.
Toy Story 5 is a good length. It’s not too long and not too short. It’s just right. The film does have a mid-credit scene, and it sort of has an end-credit scene. There is something that plays over the final credits.
Toy Story 5 is a solid sequel in the Toy Story franchise and is one of the better Pixar movies. It has a timely story and really tugs at the heartstrings.
