A wedding singer has a jam session with a singer from a boyband and the song they worked on together becomes a hit and the wedding singer does not get credit for the song. The film stars Paul Rudd, Nick Jonas, Peter McDonald, Rory Keenan, Paul Reid, Keith McErlean, Marcella Plunkett, Beth Fallon, and Jack Reynor. 

I thought Power Ballad was a good movie. It’s a nice small movie. It comes across as an indie type movie. There is nothing wrong with that. I enjoyed the movie for what it was. The main draw of the movie are Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas. They have good chemistry together. Both do a good job in their roles. I do think Paul Rudd stood out a little more. I have never heard Paul Rudd sing before so seeing him as a lead singer of a wedding band was new. Nick Jonas did a good job as well. It did seem like the character was modeled after him. His character was a member of a boyband who was struggling to take his solo career to the next level. Nick Jonas is part of the Jonas Brothers which is considered a boyband. Nick Jonas went on to have a successful solo career. At times it felt like Nick Jonas was playing himself to a degree. There is nothing wrong with that. I thought Nick Jonas did a good job. I just thought Paul Rudd stood out a little more. 

The movie is small and has a small cast. Music is a big part of the movie which is what I enjoyed the most. It was what made me interested in seeing the movie as well as the fact it starred Nick Jonas and Paul Rud. The movie is considered a comedy. I will say there are some parts that are funny, but I did not find most of the movie that funny. Comedies have always been subjective for me. I still think the movie is good. I just did not find it that funny. 

Power Ballad is a good movie that has a nice story. Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas carry the movie and make it what it is. In the midst of summer blockbusters, it is nice to have a more intimate movie as an alternative.
