Actor Johnny Cage is recruited to participate in the Mortal Kombat Tournament as one of the champions to fight for Earth’s survival against Shao Kahn. I enjoyed Mortal Kombat II a lot. The movie is a lot of fun. I enjoyed the first movie that was released in 2021. I was excited to see the second one in theaters, especially in IMAX. The first movie was released in theaters and on streaming simultaneously due to the pandemic. I did not get to experience the first movie in theaters. I rented it from the local library a few years later. I think IMAX really enhanced the movie especially the fight scenes. A lot works for the movie. It felt bigger than the first movie. It has a bigger cast. The tournament is really cool. The cast does a great job.
The movie has a solid plot to justify the fight scenes. I know what the games are, but I have never played the video games. Based on what I know about the games, the movie felt fairly accurate to the basics of the games. The fight scenes are brutal and bloody which the games are known for. There also is a high body count which is fitting for the title.
Mortal Kombat II is a fun action packed movie that should be experienced on the big screen. It is a great popcorn flick with cool fight scenes and cool worlds. It does set up a third film which I am excited to see where that will go.
