Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom sees Arthur Curry team up with his brother Orm to save Atlantis and the surface world from Black Manta. The film stars Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Manteen II, Amber Heard, Randall Park, Dolph Lundgren, Nicole Kidman, Temeura Morrison, John Rhys-Davies, Indya Moore, and Martin Short.
I enjoyed the movie. I thought it was fun and had a good solid story. This marks the final film in the DECEU. It is unknown if Jason Momoa will reprise his role as Aquaman in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. Anything is possible but there probably will not be an Aquaman 3. Aquaman is one of the few DCEU projects to get a sequel. Shazam and Wonder Woman are the only other films to get sequels. To a lesser degree Suicide Squad had a sequel as well. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is just as good as the first film. It is consistent and that worked in its favor. It followed up on plot threads from the first movie. It built on the relationship between Aquaman and Orm. It also did a good job building on Black Manta.
The cast does a solid job. Jason Momoa is great as Aquaman. Yahya Abdul-Manteen II did a great job as Black Manta. Black Manta was the main antagonist this time around. He did a really good job with the role. Patrick Wilson also did a good job as Orm. He and Jason Momoa had good chemistry. Another strong suit for the film was the dynamic between Aquaman and Orm. The movie was very much about the two brothers uniting to save their worlds.
The movie is good as a stand-alone story even though it is part of the DCEU. I think that worked well for the film. As a final chapter for the DCEU it is one of the better entries, but it doesn’t really do anything to conclude the world. The movie does have a midcredit scene. It is a fun little scene.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a fun solid movie and is a good farewell to the DCEU. The cast does a great job, and it has a good story. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Aquaman and its characters in the DCU.
