Can Marvel Get Back On Track with the Rest of the Multiverse Saga?

In a few days Deadpool & Wolverine will be opening in theaters. It is the only Marvel movie this year. This is the first time in a few years that only one movie is being released. Last year saw the release of three Marvel movies. Next year currently sees the release of four which include Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, The Fantastic Four, and Blade, assuming it doesn’t get delayed again.

Phase 5 has been off to shaky start as has the Multiverse Saga as a whole. Phase 4 was probably the most divisive phase yet amongst fans. That seemed to continue into Phase 5 with the mixed receptions to Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, Secret Invasion, and The Marvels. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was the only well received movie. Loki season 2 was also well received and seemed to be the only project that really was trying to push forward the Multiverse Saga. Even What If? season 2 had a more mixed reception compared to season 1.

This year has been off to a much stronger start. Echo was very well liked by fans. X-Men 97 which was a continuation of the original 90s X-Men cartoon was well liked and did very well. A lot is riding on Deadpool & Wolverine, but the hype is real and for the first time in a long time there seems to be a lot of genuine excitement for a Marvel movie. It will be interesting to see how well Deadpool & Wolverine ends up doing. It sounds like it could potentially break records for an R rated movie and could potentially surpass the original two Deadpool movies. If it opens well and holds well it could potentially be one of the biggest R rated movies of all time.

Recently trailers were released for Agatha All Along, the next Marvel show on Disney Plus and Captain America: Brave New World. Reactions were fairly positive for both trailers. There seems to be hype building up for Agatha All Along as well as Captain America: Brave New world. It looks like both projects could potentially be game changing. Agatha All Along looks unique compared to other Marvel projects. It seems to be one of the few horror skewing projects. The only true horror project was Werewolf by Night. It also looks like it will push the horror side of things further.

The reception to Captain America: Brave New World’s first trailer has been mostly positive and has been compared to Captain America: Winter Soldier. Based on the trailer it looks like it will shake things up and answer some long running plot threads including finally acknowledging certain events from Eternals specifically the dead Celestial in the middle of the ocean. Hype is starting to build up for both projects. They both look exciting.

Comic Con also is in a few days and Marvel will make its welcome return to Hall H. For the first time ever, they will be in Hall H twice. On Thursday night, they will have a panel in celebration of the release of Deadpool & Wolverine with director Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and the president of Marvel Kevin Feige. Saturday’s panel will be a look at Marvel’s future plans. It sounds like they will have a lot in store for fans including giving an updated schedule on the next few years of projects. It is pretty safe to assume that Agatha All Along, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four will be present as well as Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart. Both shows are expected to premiere in 2025. There could be updates on the status of Blade. They could finally announce release dates for Thor 5, Doctor Strange 3, Shang-Chi 2, Black Panther 3 and Spider-Man 4 as well as giving updates on the MCU X-Men movie. They could announce the new directors of Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars. The latest directors in the running are the Russo Brothers who directed Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. They could also announce official release dates for Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart. The biggest thing that is expected to be revealed is what the plans for the rest of the Multiverse Saga are including what they are going to do about Kang who was played by Jonathon Majors. Jonathon Majors fell into legal trouble and after being found guilty was fired from the role. As of yet, Marvel has not said if they would recast the role or cut the character out entirely. Avengers 5 was originally titled Avengers: Kang Dynasty. More casting announcements are expected as well for some of the upcoming projects.

Right now, Marvel is gearing up for a rebirth and so far, it looks promising. Deadpool & Wolverine is a multiverse movie which will probably play a huge part in pushing the Multiverse Saga forward. Agatha All Along and Captain America: Brave New World look like they will push forward the world as well in both the horror realm and the street level realm. Captain America also looks like it will push forward setting up a new Avengers team as well.

Hype is building up again for Marvel and its upcoming slate. Fans seem to be getting excited about what’s to be released in the future. Time will tell very soon what the future will hold and how fan reception will be. I am genuinely excited for Deadpool & Wolverine and what Marvel will unveil at Comic Con this weekend.
