Hercules was released in the summer of 1997 where it made almost 100 million domestically. Hercules is raised on Earth by humans and is mortal and has to prove himself so he can return to Mount Olympus. The movie stars Tate Donovan, Susan Egan, James Woods, Danny DeVito, Roger Bart, Rip Torn, Hal Holbrook, and Charlton Heston.
I had never seen Hercules. I have seen bits and pieces of it on television. I did try watching it once many years ago and didn’t make it through the film. I think I only got into the first ten minutes or so. I have finally seen Hercules and I thought it was good. I didn’t love the movie, but I didn’t hate it either. When Hercules came out, I was not that interested in seeing it. I wasn’t excited for it the way I was for Tarzan, Aladdin, or Beauty and the Beast. I don’t know if I would have enjoyed Hercules more if I had seen it when it came out or shortly afterward. I didn’t love this the way I have other movies. There were some funny moments, and the music was catchy. The songs didn’t stand out the same way that other movies did.
I thought Hercules was a good length. It was not too long. It was just right. It clocks in a little over ninety minutes. There were parts of the movie that felt similar to other Disney movies like Aladdin. Hercules came out a few years after Aladdin. Just like other Disney classics, this had heart and emotion.
I thought Hercules was good but not great. It is a solid Disney movie with heart and emotion.
