Based on the book by Casey McQuiston, the son of the American President and a royal prince are forced to spend time together after an incident occurs at a wedding where they start to fall for each other. The movie stars Taylor Zakhar-Perez, Nicholas Galitzine, Rachel Hilson, Bridget Benstead, Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Sarah Shahi, Aneesh Sheth, Clifton Collins Jr., Stephen Fry, and Uma Thurman.
I thought Red, White, & Royal Blue was alright. The romance genre is a mixed bag for me. I enjoy some while others are just alright. It really depends on many factors. I have read the book. I didn’t feel anything toward the movie when comparing it to the book. The main things from the book seemed to be there. The movie focuses on the main characters Alex Claremont-Diaz played by Taylor Zakhar-Perez and Prince Henry played by Nicholas Galitzine which the book also focused on. The other characters had smaller roles in the film than the book but that makes sense given the movie’s focus on the leads. The reason I thought it was alright was that I didn’t feel anything toward the movie. I didn’t dislike the movie, but I didn’t love it. It just felt meh to me. Both actors, Alex and Henry, did a good job. I didn’t feel much toward them as a couple. A big component for the romance genre relies on the characters and getting the audience invested in the characters and the will they or won’t they aspect of getting together. I didn’t feel that for Alex and Henry. However, I do think they had good chemistry. I did not feel invested though.
The rest of the of cast did a solid job. The movie also felt a little long. It clocks in at two hours and two minutes which is a fairly normal length especially when compared to other movies. It just felt slightly too long. The movie also felt a little boring which may explain why the movie felt too long.
There is also a credit scene at the end of the movie.
Red, White, & Royal Blue is an alright movie. It is a fairly typical and predictable romance movie. It captures the main components of the book, and the leads do a good job in their roles.
