2023 is coming to an end. Here are some of my favorite movies that came out this year in no particular order.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was one of the best movies of the year. It was darker but still remained true to what that franchise is. It fulfilled James Gunn’s vision for the story he wanted to tell. It was the best Marvel project of the year. It was a satisfying conclusion to Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and had great performances from everyone involved and a memorable villain.

The Super Mario Bros Movie

This is one of the best animated movies of the year and one of the best video game adaptations ever. It was faithful to the world of Mario. It managed to fit a lot of references in such a short amount of time without it ever feeling overstuffed. It gave audiences the classic song Peaches sung by Bowser voiced by Jack Black.

The Marvels

There may have been mixed reviews for The Marvels, but I enjoyed The Marvels a lot. It is a shame a lot of people did not turn out for The Marvels. It was a good story, and it was a great movie. It really captured the spirit of what Marvel is all about and it is one of the first projects in awhile to feel like a Marvel movie. It also had mind a blowing credit scene that has me hyped for where things will go next.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse topped Into the Spider-Verse easily. It was bigger and better and longer. It managed to succeed on all cylinders. It really upped the ante. It had great visuals and a soundtrack that only enhanced the movie. I cannot wait until the final part of this trilogy.

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania

Just like The Marvels, Ant-Man & The Wasp Quantumania had a mixed reception. It is probably only made worse by the recent verdict in the Jonathon Majors trial which wound up getting him fired from the role of Kang. I enjoyed Quantumania and thought it was really good. I am curious how things will play out now, especially after the firing of Jonathon Majors. I think the movie is a solid Ant-Man movie and is still a lot of fun.

Fast X

Fast X also had mixed reactions from audiences. I personally loved it. The main attraction for Fast X is Jason Momoa as the villain. Jason Momoa was entertaining to watch on screen. He really made Fast X a lot of fun. Fast X also had a good story and set up a lot for the conclusion of the main franchise. It also had some cheer worthy returns as well. I am looking forward to seeing how things play out with the final chapters.
