Prism is Katy Perry’s third album and was released on October 18th, 2013. It was a smash hit and had multiple hit singles. It followed the hugely successful Teenage Dream album. Prism debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart and sold over 4 million copies worldwide. Prism went on to have five singles including the lead single Roar which hit number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Dark Horse which featured Juicy J also went number 1 joining the long list of number one songs by Katy Perry, most of which was achieved on the Teenage Dream album. Unconditionally, Birthday, and This is How We Do were also singles with varying degrees of success. Unconditionally had a better run than Birthday and This is How We Do both on the chart and on radio.

Prism is the last Katy Perry album to have multiple hit singles. Later albums had some hits but nothing that matched the first three albums. Prism is a solid album. It was heavily promoted as being darker than previous albums One of the Boys and Teenage Dream. Prism went in a different direction where it is a little more upbeat than initially thought. There are some dark songs specifically Dark Horse with Juicy J. Dark Horse is Katy Perry’s last song to hit number 1 currently. Prism’s stand out tracks include Roar, Dark Horse, Legendary Lovers which surprisingly was never a single, Unconditionally, and Walking on Air. By the Grace of God is a beautiful ballad.

Prism is nice to listen to and it shows a different side to Katy Perry. The first half of the album seems to be a little more adventurous than the second half. Prism was hugely successful for Katy Perry continuing her streak from her prior albums. Later albums would take go in different directions. It is nice to go back and listen to Prism. Katy Perry has expressed plans on releasing a new album. It is exciting to see where Katy Perry goes next and what the next album will sound like.
