Barry Allen has been through it all over the course of 9 seasons. Barry was first introduced in a 2 episode arc on Arrow in season 2. He was a CSI working on a case in Starling City. He met Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and quickly learned he was the Hood. Oliver became The Green Arrow in season 4 of Arrow. When Barry returned home to Central City an explosion happened at S.T.A.R. Labs and he was electrocuted and put into a coma. The Flash kicked off with Barry waking up from his coma and having speedster abilities. He was mentored by Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) and worked with Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) and Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker). They became Team Flash. Barry wrestled with his feelings for his best friend Iris (Candice Patton) who was dating Detective Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett). Eddie also happened to be Iris’ father Joe West’s (Jesse L. Martin) partner. At a young age Barry lost his mother Nora Allen (Michelle Harrison) and his father Henry Allen (John Wesley Shipp). Henry went to prison for killing Nora. Henry was framed for murder by Reverse Flash. Later in season 1 Barry got his official name as The Flash after being known as The Streak. Iris was the one to name him unaware that Barry was the hero. Team Flash learned that Harrison Wells was Reverse Flash. Also, Wells was really Eobard Thawne (Matt Letscher). Eobard killed the real Harrison Wells and used Wells’ form. Thawne killed Barry’s mother and framed his father for the crime. Thawne built the Particle Accelerator so it would give Barry his speedster powers. At the end of season 1 Eddie, who was a descendant of Thawne, sacrificed himself to erase Reverse Flash from the timeline. That did not stick as Thawne has been Barry’s greatest enemy through the course of the series.

In Season 2 Henry Allen got released from prison after Thawne made a confessional that stated that Henry did not kill Nora Allen. Barry got to enjoy time with his father again. Barry and Team Flash met another speedster from a different Earth, Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears). Jay was The Flash on Earth-2. Jay helped Team Flash try to stop Zoom. Eventually another betrayal happened when it was revealed that Jay Garrick was Zoom. It was also revealed that Jay Garrick was really Hunter Zolomon. He stole the identity of the real Jay Garrick on Earth-2. By the end of season 2, Zoom murdered Henry. Once Team Flash defeated Zoom, they met the real Jay Garrick who Zoom was keeping prisoner. Jay Garrick had the same face as Henry Allen. After losing his father, Barry made the decision to go back in time to undo his mother’s death which had massive repercussions.

In Season 3, after spending some time living in an alternate timeline with both his parents, Barry decided to put things back to the way they were. He teamed up with Eobard Thawne to help him set things right. After Eobard murdered Nora, a new timeline was created, and things were different when Barry returned. Iris and Joe were estranged. Cisco lost his brother Dante (Nicholas Gonzalez). Eventually Barry and Iris got together and a trip to the future led to Barry seeing that Iris would die in the near future by Savitar. Barry put all of his focus on preventing Iris’ death. During that time Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) who is Iris’ brother got speedster powers himself and became Kid Flash. Also, Cisco was a full-fledged hero as Vibe and Caitlin’s meta human abilities officially were awakened and she became the villain Killer Frost. Barry and Iris got engaged and by the end of season 3, Iris was saved when HR Wells swapped places with Iris. HR was disguised as Iris while Iris was disguised as Wells. After defeating Savitar who was an evil Barry, Barry went into the Speed Force.

In Season 4 Barry returned from the Speed Force. Iris was in charge of Team Flash while Wally was the primary speedster in Barry’s absence. Barry and Iris had their wedding with all their friends and family in attendance. Their wedding was interrupted by nazis, and Barry wound up on Earth-X with Oliver, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), Martin Stein (Victor Garber), and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Franz Drameh). Eventually they were able to return home and were able to defeat Reverse Flash, the Dark Archer, and Overgirl (Melissa Benoist). The Dark Archer and Overgirl were evil versions of Oliver Queen and Kara Danvers. Barry and Iris got married alongside Oliver and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) with John Diggle (David Ramsey) performing the ceremony. After Barry and Iris got married, Barry was framed for the murder of Clifford DeVoe (Neil Sandilands) a.k.a The Thinker and was sent to prison. The Thinker was really alive. He transferred his consciousness into another person. Every time The Thinker went into another body, he would absorb a metahuman’s abilities. Eventually he got the abilities to change forms and was able to regain his original form. Eventually the charges got dropped against Barry. Barry and Team Flash were able to defeat The Thinker once and for all. While celebrating Barry and Iris got a surprise visit from Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy) who was their daughter from the future.

In Season 5 Barry got to know Nora. Eventually it was revealed that Nora was being mentored by Eobard Thawne in 2049. Thawne used Nora as part of his plan. He was due for execution and was able to escape after his plan was fulfilled. Barry and Iris lost Nora who was erased from the timeline. Thawne escaped.

In Season 6 Barry faced his greatest challenge yet with the impending Crisis where he was supposed to die. Barry spent time preparing the team for life without him. Once Crisis on Infinite Earths happened, Barry survived after learning that Oliver made a deal with the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) to spare his life. Oliver died after fighting the Anti-Monitor. The multiverse was destroyed, and all Earths formed into Earth-Prime. Supergirl who lived on Earth-38 now lived in the same world as Team Flash. While adjusting to post Crisis life, Iris got trapped in the mirrorverse and a mirror Iris was put in her place. Barry as well as everyone else was unaware. Barry started to notice something once Wally brought it to his attention. Barry eventually found out the truth and focused on finding a way to free Iris from the mirrorverse.

In Season 7 Barry and Iris were reunited. They got to meet their future son Bart Allen (Jordan Fisher). Barry said goodbye to Cisco who was leaving Central City for a job at A.R.G.U.S in Star City. After Nash Wells sacrificed himself at the beginning of the season, the original Harrison Wells who Eobard Thawne had murdered was brought back to life. Barry got to meet the original Wells. Wells left to live his new life and see the world. Barry and Iris renewed their wedding vows and Cisco returned and performed the ceremony.

In Season 8 Iris who had suffered from time sickness in season 7, had gotten it again after she stopped all treatment for it. Iris’ condition was getting worse. Barry faced tragedy again when Iris was killed. Evil Thawne was resurrected and killed Good Thawne by literally ripping his face off. Barry was able to defeat Thawne and Iris was brought back to life.

In the current season, Barry and Iris have been closer than ever and they have been preparing for the arrival of Nora. Barry got to reunite with Oliver one last time when Ramsey Rosso (Sendhil Ramamurthy) returned to cure the multiverse. Iris is currently in labor, and Barry has been bouncing around different timelines trying to get back to Iris and to be there for the birth of their daughter. Barry has been through a lot over the course of the series and has lost many loved ones over the years. It will be interesting to see how his story concludes in the series finale. Will Barry get a happy ending? I think Barry will get a happy ending and he certainly deserves one.
