In honor of The Flash ending on Wednesday May 24^th, here is a look at Iris West Allen’s journey. MASSIVE SPOILERS.

Iris West has been on The Flash since the beginning. Iris and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) were childhood friends who grew up together. When Barry woke up from his coma, Iris was dating Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett), a detective who worked for CCPD. Eddie was also Iris’ father, Joe West’s (Jesse L. Martin) partner. Iris developed a bond with The Flash, unknown to her that The Flash was Barry. Iris was the one who gave The Flash his name after being known as the Streak. Eventually Iris found out that Barry was The Flash. At the end of season 1 Eddie sacrificed himself in order to erase Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) from the timeline. Eddie was a descendant of Eobard Thawne (Matt Letscher) who used Harrison Wells’ form after killing the real Harrison Wells.

In Season 2 Iris’ mother, Francine (Vanessa Williams) who left Iris and Joe many years ago, resurfaced which brought up a lot of emotions for Iris. Iris also got to meet her brother Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) who was raised by Francine. As time went on Iris and Wally started to bond. At the end of season 2 Iris and Barry were heading down the romantic road right before Barry went back in time to undo his mother’s (Michelle Harrison) death.

In season 3 Barry created Flashpoint where his mother was still alive, and he was living with both parents. Barry set things back on track and created a new timeline where Iris and Joe were estranged. Eventually Iris and Joe were able to make amends. Iris and Barry finally got together and a trip to the future showed that Iris would die. Barry then focused on making sure that wouldn’t happen. Barry and Iris got engaged and by the end of season 3, HR Wells swapped places with Iris and was killed by Savitar. HR was disguised as Iris while Iris was disguised as HR. After defeating Savitar, Barry left to go into the speed force.

In season 4, while Barry was gone Iris became the leader of Team Flash with Wally as the primary flash. By this point Wally had gotten his own speedster abilities and became Kid Flash. Barry returned from the Speed Force and he and Iris got married. Their wedding was attended by everybody including Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist), and Sara Lance (Caity Lotz). The wedding was interrupted by nazis from Earth-X. Their wedding was the key event in the crossover Crisis on Earth-X. Iris had a major role in the crossover where she and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) helped rescue Supergirl. At the end of the crossover, Iris and Barry got married alongside Oliver and Felicity. The ceremony was performed by John Diggle (David Ramsey). By the end of season 4, after defeating the Thinker (Neil Sandilands) and getting a surprise visit from Wally who had left earlier in the season, Iris and Barry got one more surprise when they got a visit by Nora West Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy) who was their daughter from the future.

In Season 5 Iris tried bonding with Nora who was focused on spending all of her time with Barry. Eventually Iris learned that in the future Nora and Iris did not have that great of a relationship and Barry was absent from most of Nora’s life. He had vanished years ago. Over time Iris and Nora were able to bond. By the end of the season Iris and Barry lost Nora who was erased from the timeline.

In Season 6 after trying to deal with losing Nora, Iris and Barry learned that the Crisis was happening much sooner. They got a visit from the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) who told them that the Crisis was happening in a few months. Barry survived Crisis and a new world was born after the destruction of the multiverse. All worlds formed on Earth-Prime. While investigating a story, Iris got taken into the mirrorverse where she spent the rest of the season. Barry didn’t learn until later that Iris was missing. A mirror version of Iris was put in Iris’ place. While trapped in the mirrorverse Iris met Eva Mcculloch (Efrat Dor) who was also trapped in the mirrorverse. Together they worked on a way to get out. Eva left the mirrorverse and trapped Iris in it.

In Season 7 Iris returned home and she and Barry were reunited. Iris got to reunite with Nora from 2049 and got to meet her son Bart Allen (Jordan Fisher) from the future. Iris also developed time sickness during the Godspeed War. Iris had treatments and got better. Iris and Barry renewed their wedding vows in front of their friends and family. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) who had left Central City earlier in the season returned and performed their wedding vows.

In Season 8 During Armageddon, Iris had Deon (Christian Magby) undo all of her treatments. Her time sickness got worse afterward. Eventually Iris’ time sickness got better. Iris was also killed by the Negative Forces so they could resurrect Thawne (Tom Cavanagh). Once Thawne was defeated, Iris was brought back.

In the current season Iris is pregnant with Nora. Iris and Barry have been preparing for the arrival of their daughter. It will be interesting to see what happens with Iris in the series finale. Iris has been in labor in the last few episodes. I think it’s safe to assume she will give birth in the final episode. Iris has been through a lot over the course of the show. She now runs The Central City Citizen and is an award-winning journalist. Iris also got to suit up a couple of times and got to experience being a speedster. All signs are pointing to a happy ending for Iris, which she rightfully deserves.
