In honor of The Flash ending on Wednesday May 24^th, here is a look at Joe West’s journey. MASSIVE SPOILERS.

Detective Joe West is the father of Iris (Candice Patton) and Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale). Joe was a single father to Iris for most of her life after her mother and his wife Francine (Vanessa Williams) left. Joe and Iris dealt with losing Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) to a coma after getting hit by lightning during the explosion of the Particle Accelerator. Eventually Barry woke up from his coma and developed powers where he went on to become the Flash. Joe raised Barry after his father Henry Allen (John Wesley Shipp) went to prison for murdering Barry’s mother. He was later released when it was proven that he did not kill Barry’s mother Nora Allen (Michelle Harrison). Joe got to reconnect with Wally who came to seek him and Iris out. Wally moved in with Joe and Iris.

Joe worked with Barry and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) on metahuman cases. Joe lost his partner Detective Eddie Thawn (Rick Cosnett) when Eddie killed himself to erase Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) from existence. Barry went back in time to stop his mother from getting murdered and by doing so created Flashpoint which created a new timeline. In the new timeline Joe and Iris were estranged. Joe and Iris eventually reconciled. Wally left Team Flash in the beginning of season 4 to go on his own journey. Joe started dating Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet), the district attorney. After getting pregnant, Cecile became a metahuman with the powers of telepathy and empathy.

Joe eventually became Captain while he continued to work with Team Flash and Cecile on metahuman cases. Joe eventually retired from the CCPD while Cecile continued to work. In the current season Joe and his daughter Jenna moved out of Central City to have a normal life. Cecile joins them on the weekends while she stays in Central City during the week to help Team Flash.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Joe next. He is a recurring character this season. I think it is safe to presume that Joe will be in the series finale. I would be shocked if he is not in the final episode.
