In honor of The Flash ending on Wednesday May 24th, here is a look at Eddie Thawne’s journey. Massive Spoilers.

Eddie Thawne was a series regular on Season 1 of The Flash. Eddie was a detective who worked for CCPD and was Joe West’s (Jesse L. Martin) partner. Eddie also was dating Joe’s daughter, Iris West (Candice Patton). There was a bit of a love triangle when Barry Allen aka The Flash (Grant Gustin) woke up from his coma. Barry has always had feelings for Iris who he has known since childhood. Things also got a little dicey when Iris started developing a bond with the Streak who later was named The Flash by Iris, not knowing Barry was the hero. Eddie started to get jealous of Iris’ bond with the hero and suspected that Barry had feelings for Iris. Eddie didn’t trust The Flash and pushed to have a task force centered on The Flash. It was initially rejected by the Police Captain but after The Flash’s mind got infected by a metahuman, where he became in rage and attacked people, Eddie got the task force approved. Later on, Barry revealed to Eddie, that he was The Flash in hopes of getting Eddie to convince Iris to back off a story she was writing about the hero. Eddie’s plans to propose to Iris never come to fruition. When he is about to propose, Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) kidnaps Eddie and reveals that they are related. Eddie is a descendant of Eobard Thawne (Matt Letscher). Tom Cavanaugh played the real Harrison Wells on season 1 and was also Reverse Flash. It was revealed later in the season that Matt Letscher’s Eobard Thawne killed the real Harrison Wells and masqueraded as Harrison Wells which is why Reverse Flash in season 1 was predominantly Tom Cavanagh. Eobard Thawne was disguised as Harrison Wells.

In order to save Barry and Team Flash, Eddie sacrifices himself in order to erase Reverse Flash from existence. After Season 1, Eddie still appeared on the show from time to time. It usually took place in dream sequences, flashbacks, or alternate timelines. Eddie is currently on the final season of The Flash. It will be interesting to see how that plays out within the final episodes.
