Taylor Swift’s 10th studio album, Midnights is a blockbuster album and has continued Taylor’s massive success. Anti-Hero was the lead single and became Taylor’s 9th number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It has also become Taylor’s longest reign at number one with 8 nonconsecutive weeks at the top spot. Taylor’s second single is Lavender Haze which is starting to get increased radio airplay. Could Lavender Haze eventually take number one? It’s possible. It could at the very least hit the top 10. It was in the top 10 when the album initially dropped. After Lavender Haze, will there be anymore singles? Midnights, the album is a blockbuster album. Another one for Taylor who has had many over her fifteen plus years in the business. So much has changed over the years. Albums don’t have the same impact they once had. Due to the popularity in streaming, there are a lot of people who just stream an album without purchasing it. For every person who does buy an album or downloads it there are tons of people who will just buy or stream the single. It is a big deal that Taylor Swift is still able to have huge albums.
Taylor’s last few proper studio albums have been successful but have not had the same chart success with the singles. Taylor’s album Lover was the last album to have multiple hit singles off of it. However, the singles did not have the same impact that prior ones did. Folklore came out and was a different sound. Cardigan was the lead single and debuted at number one. The song didn’t have a long shelf life on the chart or radio. She had one more song that got some radio airplay The 1. That song had even less of a shelf life than Cardigan. Taylor’s last album Evermore was another success and was the same style that Folklore was. The lead single Willow debuted at number one and had a better lifespan on the chart and radio. That was the only song to get radio airplay. It is possible some of the other songs got played on alternative radio. Z100 only played Willow from that album. After those albums, Taylor started rerecording her prior albums. She has so far released two albums Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version). Both have done well also.
Anti-Hero has taken the Billboard chart and radio by storm. Leave it to Taylor to be the one to achieve that, especially being on album 10. Lavender Haze has done nicely so far as well. It has been on the Billboard Hot 100 for the same number of weeks as Anti-Hero. Every song from Midnights charted on the Billboard Hot 100. Taylor has been able to chart most of her songs on her last few albums. When it comes to singles, there are many factors but one big one is usually determined by the artist. Midnights is a blockbuster. Taylor could decide two singles is enough or she could keep going. She may not want to try to replicate the singles success she had on her album 1989. 1989 had seven hit singles and three of them were number one.
There seems to be some potential signs that Karma could become the third single. I saw Karma on a radio station’s playlist. Any song could be a single. Bejeweled seems to be a fan favorite. Vigilante Sh*t is popular. It may be too dark to be on top 40 radio. Snow On the Beach featuring Lana Del Rey could be a single. If Taylor wants it, the album can easily have 5 singles or more. Time will tell how many hit singles the album can warrant. 2023 so far is a big win for Taylor Swift either way and there are no signs that she is stopping anytime soon.
