There are many burning questions and mysteries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Who bought Avengers Tower? It’s a simple question, yet it has not been answered. In Spider-Man Homecoming, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) sold Avengers Tower to an unknown buyer. Homecoming came out in 2017. In Spider-Man: Far From Home it was teased that someone would be moving into Avengers Tower with it under construction. Far From Home came out in 2019. It has been six years since Avengers Tower was sold and it has been four years since the last update about it was given.
Most thought it would be answered in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That was not the case. Hawkeye made a brief mention of it but that was it. It was not answered in any other property in Phase 4. There were a handful of New York based projects which included Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It was not answered in any of those projects. When will we get an answer? Who bought the building?
It was brought up from fans that Avengers Tower seems to have been removed from the background of The Marvels trailer which was recently released. Could that be because it will be answered in The Marvels who purchased the building? Marvel has edited trailers to omit things in the past to preserve surprises and maintain secrecy. Look at Avengers: Endgame’s marketing as one example. It could be answered in The Marvels. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is in the movie. He could be the one to provide the answer.
Who bought the building? Fans have had their theories. One theory was Avengers Tower would become the Baxter Building based on one of the final moments in Spider-Man: Far From Home that seemed to have teased the Fantastic Four. Also at the time, it was announced that Jon Watts, the director of the Spider-Man movies was going to direct Fantastic Four. Jon Watts dropped out and Matt Shankman, who directed Wandavision will be directing Fantastic Four. Fans also speculated the MCU’s Norman Osborn who not been introduced yet. However, in Spider-Man: No Way Home Norman Osborn (William Dafoe) from the Tobey Maguire universe said Oscorp did not exist in this world which may have confirmed that it was not Norman Osborne who purchased Avengers Tower. Another possibility is the Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) who made his MCU debut in the season finale of Hawkeye. The Kingpin will be in Echo and Daredevil: Born Again. It has also been said that there are big plans for the character and rumors suggest he could be in Spider-Man 4. It would make sense if Avengers Tower is now owned by the Kingpin. He could use it as his headquarters, and it would be easy for him to keep an eye on Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) amongst other heroes and potentially other villains too. There have also been rumors and suggestions of a Sinister Six arriving at some point. That would be a perfect space for the Kingpin to use to meet with the Sinister Six.
When will we finally find out who purchased Avengers Tower? It is possible it could be answered in The Marvels. Since Nick Fury is in Secret Invasion, it could get answered in that. I highly doubt it will get answered in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. There is a slim possibility it could be answered in Loki season 2. Secret Invasion and The Marvels are the best options for this year. If it does not get answered in those, then maybe Captain America: New World Order or Thunderbolts or Daredevil: Born Again which all come out in 2024. We will just have to wait and see but hopefully it will get answered before the next Avengers movie.
