Bewitched Rewatch Review

Credit Columbia Pictures

I saw Bewitched when it came out in 2005. At that time, I was fifteen and I did not like the movie. I was disappointed mostly because I thought the film would be an adaptation of the TV show. The plot of the movie is about them making a remake of the TV show. Nicole Kidman plays Isabelle Bigelow who is a witch and gets cast to play Samantha in the remake of Bewitched. Will Ferrell plays Jack Wyatt who is an actor who wants to revive Bewitched, and he plays Darren.

I decided to watch this again and see if my opinion would change. I will say now that I’m older, I did find the movie more enjoyable. Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell do a good job. I think this movie showcased Will Ferrell’s ability as an actor. I have seen a fair amount of Will Ferrell’s movies and he does do some of his usual shtick in this but I felt this movie showcased a more mature side to him. His character did not feel very goofy. Will Ferrell’s roles have a tendency to follow similar patterns to Adam Sandler when it comes to their most successful projects. Some of Adam Sandler’s projects have also shown other sides to him as well. Bewitched has a good ensemble which also includes Michael Caine, Shirley McLain, Kristen Chenowith, Jason Schwartzman, and many others. Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell really carry the movie and a lot of that is due to the good chemistry they have.

Watching Bewitched this time around, I did like the fact the plot is about them doing a remake of the show. I liked watching the parts where they were taping the episodes with a studio audience. I find it funny because this was the main reason I did not like the movie when I saw it in 2005.

Bewitched is a fun movie that has a strong ensemble cast and does a good job of paying homage to the classic show. I am glad I gave this another look because my opinion is a lot different now than it was the first time around.
